I tried the Aaptiv AI-powered audio and video fitness app and will tell you my experience and why I think it’s an awesome app if you are (1) not a celebrity (2) can’t motivate yourself into going to the gym.
I’ve been there more times than I can count; I swear I’m going to go to the gym, but I can’t last more than two weeks. All those people with tight crop tops who sweat meticulously can be intimidating when your numbers are stuck and the fat is not shifting. Left alone, I’ve tried pilates, which I never finish, 30 pushups every day, which I can’t go beyond three days, and then comes in Aaptiv. With all its glorious promises, it feels like what I’ve been missing. Turns out I was right.

First, I downloaded the app from the Google Play Store. It’s also available on the App Store. I was ushered in with a brief onboarding process by answering questions, such as my health goal. You can only choose one health goal from:
- lose weight;
- run farther or faster;
- build strength;
- reduce stress;
- stay fit.
I also answed questions like my height, current weight, gender, and birthday. Aaptiv also wanted to know my fitness level between beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Since it’s designed to cater to your specific needs, it even asks you if you have access to equipment such as kettlebells, barbells, jump rope, etc. If you don’t have any equipment, it will tailor exercises that don’t require training equipment.

Using Aaptiv for Workouts
The first thing I noticed is the easy to use interface. I chose a workout and trainer, then the music which I didn’t get to use because combining the trainer’s voice and music did not go well. So I went with the excersises using voice onlyby John Thornhill. I liked the coach’s voice because he explained the goal of every movement, what’s expected in with words like “zip your abs and allow that chest to go all the way down.” There’s was also encouragement like “shake it out,” “you are almost there, “maintain that position for just two seconds.” It doesn’t feel like an AI-powered app because I really don’t like AI voices, which is why the professional trainers, was such a relief.

Aaptiv offers a personalised plan powered by AI. All you need is to answer a few questions and it will create the plan for you based on your fitness level. When you start moving, Aaptiv can log in your workouts and it even connects to Bluetooth devices like smartwatches, heart monitors, and fitness trackers to log in your body’s stats.
My plan was based on the days of the week that I had chosen. Since I always consider myself a beginner because of the lack of consistency. I saw it as an opportunity for sticking to a fitness plan because it planned what I had to do on the days I had chosen to work out.
